The Quilter
Kim Robichaud is the founder of Girasole Designs, and she creates each product from start to finish. She received her B.A. in Computer Science and Italian from Middlebury College in 2002 and has since returned to Maine. She holds her Maine Sea Kayaking Guide license, teaches, climbs, and lives in the Bangor area with her family. She is the unreasonably proud mother of twin boys who keep every moment of her life interesting and beautiful.
The Quilting
Kim's quilting knowledge comes from the patient tutelage offered by friends, family, countless books, and hours spent on the machine. She's been sewing since childhood and quilting for nearly seven years now.
All quilts are made with high-quality, 100% cotton batting and thread. The quilt bodies, however, are very diverse in composition. Fabrics range from fine upholstery fabrics to traditional cotton quilt fabric and even recycled and vintage material. An emphasis is put on sourcing materials locally, although some fabrics may have travelled the world with family or friends. All quilts are machine pieced and quilted, while the bindings are finished by hand. Every quilt is an original. Individual variations exist and are embraced by the artist as part of the beauty and novelty of a hand made product.
